Missouri May Lose Education Funds

Congress passed and President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan in 2021. Part of this historic package is the greatest infusion of funds for public schools, especially related to COVID-19 relief. However, Missouri may lose out on $1.9 Billion dollars.

Time until these funds expire:

In order for Missouri to receive this funds, the Missouri Legislature must pass, and Governor Parson must sign, House Bill 3014—which appropriates the American Rescue Plan funds for Missouri schools.

Missouri schools across the state submitted their plans for these funding back in August of 2021, but, due to the inaction of the lawmakers, have yet to receive them. All other 49 states have used these funds to:

  • hire teachers and specialists

  • hire mental health specialists and counselors

  • hire classroom aides

  • and more to help offset educational costs of the pandemic

It is because of the Republican lawmakers in Jefferson City that our schools are going without this funding. The deadline is almost here, meaning Missouri could lose $1,900,000,000 for our schools.
