From the Candidates

We have invited Democratic Candidates (or, at the county level, “friendly” candidates) affecting St. Charles County to share some of their thoughts here. Each week we will try to include submissions from candidates at the county, state and federal level. Order of publication is based on order of receipt of the submission. Disclaimer: This is for the benefit of voter engagement, and does not represent an endorsement of any candidate by the St. Charles Co Democratic Central Committee.

From Spencer Toder, Candidate for US Senate

"The only way to win an election is to earn trust. We can try to earn trust by spending millions on ads, or we can earn trust by getting to know folks as we work to make their lives better. My goal is to exhibit Democratic values every day, by making a difference now- not waiting until I take office in 2022. In five months of campaigning, my team has accomplished so much: We’ve filled two storage containers of supplies and raised over $50k for Afghan refugees. We’ve helped people get health insurance. We’ve volunteered at street clean-ups and rental assistance events. I’ve met with thousands of young people, activists, union workers, and Democratic clubs. Our outreach helped over 600 parents find out they are eligible for the $300 child tax credit. This is the only way forward. We must show Republicans and non-voters that we are different, because WE CARE. Let’s step up and fight for Missourians and for our democracy. In 2022, we will abolish the filibuster, pass voting rights reform, and promote policies that lead to longer, happier lives, but our work to build trust has already begun. It's your voice, and our future. Let's be heard."

From Jessica DeVoto, Candidate for MO House District 104 (pending redistricting)

"Workers are the backbone of our state. Without them, who would make the products and render the services we need? These workers are our families and neighbors. To help Missouri workers and to help Missouri families are one and the same. Workers don’t always get a voice when corporations make decisions. That's why we need labor unions, to speak up for workers and push back against corporate greed. We only have labor laws, such as minimum wage, the 40-hour workweek, and child labor laws, because unions have fought for them. The Missouri Legislature keeps trying to trick Missourians into passing "Right To Work" legislation. The name may sound appealing, in reality, it takes away unions' power by reducing the number of dues-paying members and allowing corporations to hire nonunion workers during strikes. If we want to be a productive state, then we need to invest in our workers, and we need unions to ensure that that happens. And we need to elect Democratic candidates who will consult with unions, not corporations, when considering legislation. If you have questions, comments, or concerns on this or other issues, please visit my website, jessicadevoto.com, for contact information."

A Lot of Exciting Things!

Ongoing right now -

Indivisible We Will Persist St. Charles – Post Card Campaign

Indivisible We Will Persist is working with Indivisible Philidelphia to inform PA voters about the American Rescue Plan. Surveys show that voters across the country are unaware of what was provided to them through this bill nor that NO Republican voted for this bill. If voters do not see a reason to vote Democratic in the 2022 elections, then the US Congress could shift to GOP control.

100 pre-printed postcards will be mailed to your home. You will write 2 SHORT sentences and the voter's address on the postcard and stamp and mail. You have 2 months to complete and mail the postcards. That is only 15 a week.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Linda Scroggin, Co-Leader Indivisible We Will Persist, at Lescrog@aol.com.
